Firefly Green Description

FireFly Green is a premier, architectural lake house with direct access to Prospect Lake with 2 paddle boards, 2 kayaks, and dock, 2 bedrooms, 2 gorgeous full baths, is pet-friendly and actually sleeps 8! Other Amenities include central AC, an outdoor fire pit, patio with grill and oodles of outdoor seating, a sun balcony, an indoor fireplace, (3) TVs with DirectTV, and/or Apple TV plus a Wii gaming system, games, gorgeous lakes views from every room, including stunning sunsets! This beautiful lake house has so much to offer!
+++ Prospect Lake is a “trolling motor only” lake and speed boats are not permitted.

The main entry brings you to an efficient mud-room with solid storage options for your Berkshire gear and to the center floor (there are three levels of living here at Firefly Green) with the two main bedrooms and full bath. Guest room #1 has a queen bed and guest room #2 has two twin beds which can also be made up as a King. Both of these bedrooms have spectacular floor-to-ceiling views of the lake, nice closets and storage areas, and roll shades which can be drawn down to soften the light for sleeping. These two bedrooms share a full bathroom, with a gorgeous green tiled tub/shower. The washer /dryer is also located on this central main floor. Follow the circular staircase hub down to the lower ground floor and here you will find the common areas of living room, dining room, and kitchen. This space is all open concept living, again, with dramatic (yet calming) floor-to-ceiling views. The kitchen has all new appliances: freezer/fridge, electric HE induction stove/range, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender, toaster oven and microwave. The dining room seats 8, easily, and the living room has plenty of seating in front of a large HDTV and beautiful fireplace feature. The fireplace has an easy on/off switch and there are fun board games available! This lower ground floor provides direct access to the outdoor spaces: patio, outdoor seating, and dock – more on that below! The living room sofa is a queen fold out bed + a futon bed is available for this level.

The circular staircase also takes you to the top floor loft which serves as a fun bonus room with another HDTV with Apple TV and a Wii gaming system. This room, with Queen foldout sofa bed + futon mattress is available as an additional sleep space. Reminder: there is the Queen fold out sofa in the living room is the other option available for your extra guest or two... so this house can easily sleep up to 8 guests, in a cozy way. This loft bonus room has access to the sun deck with table, chairs, and 2 chaises for sunning, sunset viewing or star gazing in this spectacular location!

Much thought and consideration has been put into making the outdoor spaces just as inviting as in indoor ones. The patio has a fun canopy cover to shield the outdoor dining table. The outdoor firepit (wood included) is built into the metal retaining wall and provides a cozy, yet dynamic, outdoor experience. 2 paddle boards and 2 kayaks are available for guest use and have their own outdoor organizer for easy storage. This organizer also has a teak storage chest for life vests, and other fun water gear. The dock is just wonderful – perfect for throwing a line in, access for swimming and water sports or just sitting, laying out, and enjoying the tranquility and sense of renewal that comes with lakeside living. It is there purely for your enjoyment!

The house is very close to Ski Catamount for winter sports enthusiasts, as well at Catamount Aerial Adventure Park, ropes course available for summer into fall. Just a quick 10 minutes to the center of Great Barrington, this location is close to all major Berkshire events and venues!

The house is well prepared for rental guests and we look forward to hosting you soon.

LAKE HOUSE
The inspiration for the exterior of this 1500 SF lake house was an abandoned mine building in Telluride, Colorado. The 100 year old reclaimed wood barn boards blend with rust-painted siding and iconic roof forms to capture the essence of a utilitarian vernacular structure.
Our challenge was to create a comfortable 2 bedroom 2 bath home on a 60’ x 75’ lot. Limitations of local codes, proximity to water’s edge and environmental guidelines restricted us to building within a 25’ x 25’ footprint.
Utilizing the sloping site we created a lower level open living area and kitchen that walk directly out to the lake, connected by an illuminated custom steel spiral stair to a mid-level pair of bedrooms and bathroom, and a top floor family room and sun deck. To provide privacy in a house whose front face is merely 25 feet from the roadway, we limited windows and exposure on the road side and opened the living spaces to the lake.
This house is designed to be zero-net energy and is pending LEED Platinum status. The selection of recycled and low-impact building materials, high efficiency mechanical systems, rigorous waste management and double wall construction are critical components to this approach. A geothermal well, PV solar panels with battery back-up, low flow plumbing fixtures, high performance glazing and a restriction from using fossil fuels meet the baseline criteria for designing such a low carbon-footprint structure.
The drought-tolerant non-invasive native plant landscaping will fill in and provide natural habitats for wildlife as well as minimizing watering needs and controlling ground water runoff. Permeable pavers on the driveway serve as a growing medium for a thyme ground cover and a low-albedo stone patio limits the heat island effect while reducing the maintenance requirements.
